The Challenges Forum organizes several different types of forums and seminars each year.
The main event, the Challenges Annual Forum serves as a launching platform for forward-looking research, concepts, and policy initiatives and involves the participation of up to some 250 leading officials, practitioners and academics from different professional, organizational, geographical and thematic categories in the field of peace operations and peacebuilding. The Annual Forum is hosted on a rotating basis by a Challenges Forum partner, usually as a qualifying introduction for new Partners.
Challenges Forum Workshops and Seminars are held on a regular basis throughout the year and aim to gather Challenges Forum partners to deliberate on specific issues and projects, often in close cooperation with the field. Partly as a follow-up to the annual fora, workshops and seminars both serve to present and discuss results and findings with policy makers and practitioners, and engage relevant stakholders on coming issues and research. The outcomes are most commonly presented in a policy brief including a small number of targeted recommendations.
In principle, the hosting of the Challenges Forum Annual Fora, seminars and workshops alternate between the "Global South" and the "Global North", or are held in partnership between the two.
