This policy brief takes the authors experiences as Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General for MINUSCA in the Central African Republic as a point of departure, and makes recommendations on how to ensure that leaders of peace operations have the tools to do their jobs well.

MS DIANE CORNER is former Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General for MINUSCA. Diane Corner was from September 2014 to June 2017 Deputy Head of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA). Her responsibilities included political affairs, protection of civilians, human rights, DDR, security sector reform, women and child protection and mine clearance. Prior to this appointment, Diane Corner worked for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office for 32 years. Her diplomatic postings included British High Commissioner to Tanzania (2009-2013), and British Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and non-Resident Ambassador to the Republic of Congo (2013-2014).
